01 "An Act relating to the operation of low-speed vehicles."                                                               
02 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA:                                                                
03    * Section 1. AS 28.35.261(b) is amended to read:                                                                   
04            (b)  The operator of a low-speed vehicle may not operate that vehicle on a                                   
05       highway that has a maximum speed limit of more than 35 miles an hour.                                         
06       Notwithstanding this subsection, the operator of a low-speed vehicle may                                          
07                 (1)  operate that vehicle on a highway with a maximum speed limit                                   
08       of 45 miles an hour if the highway is                                                                         
09                      (A)  within a municipality that                                                                
10                           (i)  has a population of less than 35,000;                                                
11                           (ii)  is not connected by road to Anchorage or                                            
12                 Fairbanks;                                                                                          
13                           (iii)  has passed an ordinance allowing for the                                           
14                 operation of low-speed vehicles as provided for in this                                             
15                 subparagraph;                                                                                       
01                      (B)  within an area of the unorganized borough, outside of a                                   
02            city, that is not connected by road to Anchorage or Fairbanks;                                           
03                 (2)  only cross a highway at an intersection where the highway upon                             
04       which the low-speed vehicle approaches the intersection, and the highway the                                  
05       vehicle is crossing to, are eligible for low-speed vehicle operation under this                               
06       section [THAT HAS A MAXIMUM SPEED LIMIT OF MORE THAN 35 MILES                                                 
07       AN HOUR IF THE CROSSING IS MADE AT THE INTERSECTION WITH A                                                        
08       HIGHWAY THAT IS AUTHORIZED FOR LOW-SPEED VEHICLES].
