01 Relating to information from veterans on the permanent fund dividend application form.

03    * Section 1. AS 43.23.015 is amended by adding a new subsection to read:                                           
04            (j)  The application form for claiming a permanent fund dividend must include                                
05       a place for the applicant to voluntarily indicate that the applicant is a veteran, the                            
06       branch of service, including the Alaska Territorial Guard, and the dates of service.                              
07       Notwithstanding AS 43.23.017, the department shall release information provided                                   
08       under this subsection to the Department of Military and Veterans' Affairs and may not                             
09       otherwise release the information. The Department of Military and Veterans' Affairs                               
10       may only release the information to congressionally chartered veterans service                                    
11       organizations in the state. The application form must contain notice that providing the                           
12       information under this subsection is voluntary, that the information will be released as                          
13       provided in this subsection, and that the veterans service organizations are not required                         
01       to keep it confidential.
