01 Establishing a Senate Special Committee on University Oversight.

03 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE:                                                                                         
04      WHEREAS the University of Alaska plays a critical role in the economic well-being                                
05 of our state; and                                                                                                       
06      WHEREAS many Alaska businesses, government agencies, and health care providers                                   
07 rely on the university to provide a high caliber workforce; and                                                         
08      WHEREAS University of Alaska research alone brings over $100,000,000 into the                                    
09 state from outside public and private sources each year; and                                                            
10      WHEREAS the University of Alaska is vital in expanding the economy of the State                                  
11 of Alaska; and                                                                                                          
12      WHEREAS the legislature should take an active role in dealing with university issues                             
13 to ensure that state resources are being used to maximum advantage;                                                     
14      BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate that a Senate Special Committee on University                                       
15 Oversight is established to deal with university issues; and be it                                                      
16      FURTHER RESOLVED that the president of the Senate shall determine the number                                     
01 of senators to be members of the committee and shall appoint the members and designate a                                
02 member to chair the committee; and be it                                                                                
03      FURTHER RESOLVED that the Senate Special Committee on University Oversight                                       
04 may meet during and between sessions of the Twenty-Fourth Alaska State Legislature and is                               
05 terminated on the convening of the First Session of the Twenty-Fifth Alaska State Legislature.
