00                          SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 5                                                                        
01 Establishing a Senate Special Committee on University Oversight.                                                        
02 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE:                                                                                           
03       WHEREAS the University of Alaska plays a critical role in the economic well-being                               
04 of our state; and                                                                                                       
05       WHEREAS many Alaska businesses, government agencies, and health care providers                                  
06 rely on the university to provide a high caliber workforce; and                                                         
07       WHEREAS University of Alaska research alone brings over $100,000,000 into the                                   
08 state from outside public and private sources each year; and                                                            
09       WHEREAS the University of Alaska is vital in expanding the economy of the State                                 
10 of Alaska; and                                                                                                          
11       WHEREAS the legislature should take an active role in dealing with university issues                            
12 to ensure that state resources are being used to maximum advantage;                                                     
13       BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate that a Senate Special Committee on University                                      
14 Oversight is established to deal with university issues; and be it                                                      
15       FURTHER RESOLVED that the president of the Senate shall determine the number                                    
16 of senators to be members of the committee and shall appoint the members and designate a                                
01 member to chair the committee; and be it                                                                                
02       FURTHER RESOLVED that the Senate Special Committee on University Oversight                                      
03 may meet during and between sessions of the Twenty-Fourth Alaska State Legislature and is                               
04 terminated on the convening of the First Session of the Twenty-Fifth Alaska State Legislature.
