00 CS FOR HOUSE BILL NO. 245(FIN) 01 "An Act relating to motor vehicle registration plates and fees for Purple Heart 02 recipients and Congressional Medal of Honor recipients; and providing for an effective 03 date." 04 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA: 05 * Section 1. AS 28.10.181(l) is amended to read: 06 (l) Vehicles owned by Pearl Harbor survivors, [AND] former prisoners of war,  07 and Congressional Medal of Honor recipients. The department, upon receipt of 08 written proof, shall issue without charge special registration plates for one 09 noncommercial motor vehicle to a person who was on active military duty in Pearl 10 Harbor on December 7, 1941, [OR] who has been a prisoner of war during a declared 11 war or other conflict, as determined by the Department of Defense under federal 12 regulations, or who is the recipient of the Congressional Medal of Honor. The 13 design and color of the Pearl Harbor survivor, [OR] prisoner of war, or Congressional  14 Medal of Honor recipient plates shall be solely within the discretion of the 01 commissioner. 02  * Sec. 2. AS 28.10.421(d)(2) is amended to read: 03 (2) special request plates for 04 (A) Alaska National Guard personnel .............................. $30; 05 (B) veterans or retired veterans ........................................ $30; 06 (C) recipients of the Purple Heart ..........................none [$30]; 07 (D) owners of custom collector vehicles .......................... $50; 08 (E) other special request plates ......................................... $30; 09 plus the fee required for that vehicle under (b) of this section; the fee required 10 by this paragraph shall be collected only on the first issuance and on the 11 replacement of special request plates; 12  * Sec. 3. AS 28.10.421(d)(11) is amended to read: 13 (11) a vehicle owned by a Pearl Harbor survivor, [OR] a former 14 prisoner of war, or a recipient of the Congressional Medal of Honor............. none; 15  * Sec. 4. This Act takes effect immediately under AS 01.10.070(c).
