00 SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 14 01 Requesting the Federal Aviation Administration to fully staff and maintain flight service 02 stations in Alaska. 03 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA: 04 WHEREAS the Alaska flight service stations of the Federal Aviation Administration 05 provide crucial services that are so intimately related to the public interest as to mandate 06 performance by federal employees; and 07 WHEREAS the Federal Aviation Administration is the agency of the federal 08 government with primary responsibility for the safety of civil aviation in the United States; 09 and 10 WHEREAS proper staffing and maintenance of the flight service stations is a 11 fundamental necessity for the continuation of crucial services to civil aviation in Alaska; and 12 WHEREAS the closure or degradation of any flight service stations in Alaska is 13 contrary to the public interest, the primary responsibility of the Federal Aviation 14 Administration for the safety of civil aviation, and homeland defense; 15 BE IT RESOLVED that the Alaska State Legislature respectfully requests the 16 Federal Aviation Administration to maintain the current 206 flight service station controllers 01 in order to properly staff all flight service stations in Alaska and to properly maintain all flight 02 service stations in Alaska. 03 COPIES of this resolution shall be sent to the Honorable George W. Bush, President 04 of the United States; the Honorable Richard B. Cheney, Vice-President of the United States 05 and President of the U.S. Senate; the Honorable Norman Mineta, United States Secretary of 06 Transportation; the Honorable Marion C. Blakey, Administrator, Federal Aviation 07 Administration, United States Department of Transportation; the Honorable Ted Stevens and 08 the Honorable Lisa Murkowski, U.S. Senators, and the Honorable Don Young, U.S. 09 Representative, members of the Alaska delegation in Congress; and to all other members of 10 the 108th United States Congress.
