01 "An Act relating to historic and antique motor vehicles; and providing for an effective                                 
02 date."                                                                                                                  
03 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA:                                                                
04    * Section 1.  AS 28.10.181(b) is amended to read:                                                                  
05            (b)  Historic vehicles.  The owner of a [AN] historic vehicle may make                                   
06       application for special registration under this subsection.  The department, when                                 
07       satisfied that the vehicle meets the requirements for historic vehicle registration under                         
08       regulations adopted by the commissioner, shall register the vehicle and (1) issue two                         
09       permanent registration plates of distinctive design and color bearing no date; vehicles                       
10       [.  THESE PLATES REMAIN WITH THE VEHICLE AS LONG AS IT IS                                                         
11       REGISTERED UNDER THIS SUBSECTION.  VEHICLES] qualifying for                                                       
12       registration under this paragraph [SUBSECTION] shall be issued registration plates                            
13       numbered in a separate numerical series beginning with "Historic Vehicle No. 1"; or                           
14       (2) allow the vehicle to use registration plates of this state supplied by the vehicle                        
01       owner that correspond to the year the vehicle was manufactured if the vehicle                                 
02       was manufactured 30 or more years before the year of application.  Registration                               
03       plates issued under this subsection remain with the vehicle as long as the vehicle                            
04       is registered under this subsection. ["]                                                                      
05    * Sec. 2.  AS 28.10.421(d)(1) is amended to read:                                                                  
06                 (1)  a [AN] historic vehicle registered under                                                   
07                      (A)  AS 28.10.181(b)(1) and that is driven or moved on a                                       
08            highway for the primary purpose of historical exhibition or similar                                      
09            activity, one time only upon initial registration under AS 28.10.181(b)                              
10            [AS 28.10.181] ............................................................................................$1
11                      (B)  AS 28.10.181(b)(2).......................................................$30              
12            plus the fee required for that vehicle under (b) of this section, unless the                             
13            historic vehicle is eligible for the fee described under (C) of this                                     
14            paragraph; the fee required by this subparagraph shall be collected only                                 
15            on the first issuance and on the replacement of the historic plates;                                     
16                      (C)  AS 28.10.181(b)(2) and that is driven or moved on a                                       
17            highway for the primary purpose of historical exhibition or similar                                      
18            activity, one time only upon initial registration under AS 28.10.181(b) .....

21                 (2)  special request plates for                                                                         
22                      (A)  Alaska National Guard personnel ...............................$30;

24                      (C)  recipients of the Purple Heart ......................................$30;                     
25                      (D)  owners of custom collector [COLLECTION] vehicles .....

29       plus the fee required for that vehicle under (b) of this section; the fee required by this

02    * Sec. 5.  This Act takes effect July 1, 2002.
