00 HOUSE BILL NO. 33 01 "An Act relating to reporting dead bodies to law enforcement." 02 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA: 03  * Section 1. AS 11.56 is amended by adding a new section to read: 04 Sec. 11.56.767. Failure to report a dead body. (a) A person commits the 05 crime of failure to report a dead body if the person observes the dead body of a person 06 or parts of the body of a person under circumstances that would lead a reasonable 07 person to believe that the person whose dead body or body parts were observed was 08 the victim of a crime and does not in a timely manner report the existence and location 09 of the dead body or body parts to a peace officer or law enforcement agency. 10 (b) In a prosecution under this section, it is an affirmative defense that the 11 defendant did not report in a timely manner because the defendant reasonably believed 12 that doing so would have exposed the defendant or others to a substantial risk of 13 physical injury. 14 (c) Failure to report a dead body is a class A misdemeanor.
