01 "An Act relating to the school year for purposes of the postsecondary student                                           
02 loan program; and providing for an effective date."                                                                     
03 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA:                                                               
04    * Section 1.  AS 14.43.160(5) is amended to read:                                                                  
05   (5)  "school year" means  an academic  [THE] period  that is a                                                    
06 minimum of 30 weeks of instructional time  [FROM SEPTEMBER 1 OF ONE                                                    
07 YEAR THROUGH AUGUST 31 OF THE FOLLOWING YEAR];                                                                          
08    * Sec. 2.  This Act takes effect September 1, 2000.
