00 CS FOR HOUSE BILL NO. 382(L&C) 01 "An Act relating to the licensing of social workers and to the use of the title 02 'social worker' without a license; and providing for an effective date." 03 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA: 04 * Section 1. AS 08.95 is amended by adding a new section to read: 05  Sec. 08.95.125. Temporary license to practice social work. (a) On receipt 06 of a completed application for a social worker license, a request for a temporary 07 license, and payment of the application fee and temporary license fee determined under 08 AS 08.01.065(c), the board, a member of the board, or an employee of the department 09 designated by the board may issue a temporary license 10  (1) to use the title "master social worker" to an individual who 11  (A) satisfies the requirements of AS 08.95.110(a)(1) and (3); or 12  (B) satisfies the requirements of AS 08.95.120(a)(2) and (4) and 13 provides a photocopy, together with a sworn statement as to the copy's veracity, 14 of the applicant's current license as a master social worker in another 01 jurisdiction; 02  (2) to use the title "baccalaureate social worker" to an individual who 03  (A) satisfies the requirements of AS 08.95.110(a)(3) and (c)(2); 04 or 05  (B) satisfies the requirements of AS 08.95.120(a)(2) and (4) and 06 provides a photocopy, together with a sworn statement as to the copy's veracity, 07 of the applicant's current license as a baccalaureate social worker in another 08 jurisdiction. 09  (b) A temporary license provided to an applicant under (a)(1)(A) or (a)(2)(A) 10 of this section is valid for one year and is valid notwithstanding the applicant's failure 11 to satisfactorily complete the examination required under AS 08.95.110(a)(6) during 12 the period that the license is valid. 13  (c) A temporary license issued under (a)(1)(B) or (a)(2)(B) of this section is 14 valid for one year. 15  (d) An individual's temporary license becomes invalid, notwithstanding (b) and 16 (c) of this section, if the individual's application for a permanent license under 17 AS 08.95.110 or 08.95.120 is rejected by the board. The temporary license becomes 18 invalid on the date of board action rejecting the license application. 19  (e) The board 20  (1) may impose by regulation additional limitations that it determines 21 appropriate on a temporary license issued under this section; 22  (2) may not, under this section, issue more than one temporary license 23 to an applicant; 24  (3) may not renew a temporary license. 25 * Sec. 2. AS 08.95.911(a) is amended to read: 26  (a) Notwithstanding AS 08.95.100(b)(1), a person who, on June 30,  2001  27 [2000], was employed or providing services under the title "social worker" may, 28 without obtaining a license under this chapter, continue to use the title "social worker" 29 while the person is employed by the same employer or, if self-employed, while 30 providing the same scope of services, as on June 30,  2001  [2000]. 31 * Sec. 3. The uncodified law of the State of Alaska enacted in sec. 26, ch. 118, SLA 1998, 01 is amended to read: 02  Sec. 26. AS 08.95.100(c) is repealed July 1,  2001 [2000]. 03 * Sec. 4. The uncodified law of the State of Alaska enacted in sec. 33, ch. 118, SLA 1998, 04 is amended to read: 05  Sec. 33. AS 08.95.100(b)(1), enacted by sec. 11 of this Act, and AS 08.95.911, 06 enacted by sec. 19 of this Act, take effect July 1,  2001 [2000]. 07 * Sec. 5. This Act takes effect immediately under AS 01.10.070(c).
