00 SENATE BILL NO. 356 01 "An Act relating to treatment under legislative standards of conduct of campaign 02 contributions to legislators during a legislative session; and providing for an 03 effective date." 04 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA: 05 * Section 1. AS 24.60.031(a) is amended to read: 06  (a) A legislator or legislative employee may not 07  (1)  on a day when either house of  [WHILE] the legislature is in 08 regular or special session, solicit or accept a contribution or a promise or pledge to 09 make a contribution for a  campaign for the state legislature; however, a legislator 10 may solicit or accept a contribution, promise, or pledge for a campaign for the 11 state legislature that occurs during the 90 days immediately preceding an election 12 in which the legislator is a candidate for the state legislature  [STATE 13 LEGISLATIVE CAMPAIGN]; 14  (2) accept money from an event held  on a day when either house of 01 the legislature is in regular or special  [DURING A LEGISLATIVE] session if a 02 substantial purpose of the event is [EITHER] to raise money on behalf of the member 03 or legislative employee for [CAMPAIGN PURPOSES OR TO RAISE MONEY FOR] 04 state legislative political purposes;  however, this paragraph does not prohibit a 05 legislator from accepting money from an event held during the 90 days 06 immediately preceding an election in which the legislator is a candidate for the 07 state legislature; or 08  (3)  in a campaign for the state legislature, expend money  that was 09 raised on a day when either house of the legislature was in a [STATE] legislative 10  session  [CAMPAIGN THAT WAS RAISED] by or on behalf of a legislator [DURING 11 A LEGISLATIVE SESSION] under  a declaration of candidacy or a general letter of 12 intent to become a candidate for public office ; however, this paragraph does not 13 apply to money raised during the 90 days immediately preceding an election in 14 which the legislator is a candidate for the state legislature . 15 * Sec. 2. This Act takes effect immediately under AS 01.10.070(c).
