01 "An Act requiring that the cost of contraceptives and related health care services                                      
02 be included in health insurance coverage."                                                                              
03 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA:                                                               
04    * Section 1.  SHORT TITLE.  This Act may be known as the Contraceptive Coverage Act                                
05 of 1998.                                                                                                                
06    * Sec. 2.  AS 21.42 is amended by adding a new section to read:                                                    
07  Sec. 21.42.390.  Coverage for contraceptives.  (a)  Except for a fraternal                                          
08 benefit society, a health care insurer that offers, issues for delivery, delivers, or renews                            
09 in this state a health care insurance plan shall provide coverage for contraceptives and                                
10 related health care services.  The coverage required under this section is subject to                                   
11 standard policy provisions applicable to other benefits, including deductible or                                        
12 copayment provisions.                                                                                                   
13  (b)  In this section,                                                                                                 
14   (1)  "contraceptives" includes an appliance, a drug, or a medicinal                                                  
01 preparation intended for the prevention of conception;                                                                  
02   (2)  "health care services" includes consultations, examinations,                                                    
03 procedures, and services medically necessary to prescribe or administer contraceptives.
