00 SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 14                                                                                          
01 Proposing an amendment to the Constitution of the State of Alaska relating to                                           
02 certain public corporations.                                                                                            
03 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA:                                                               
04    * Section 1.  Article III, sec. 26, Constitution of the State of Alaska, is amended to read:                         
05  SECTION 26.  BOARDS AND COMMISSIONS.  When a board or                                                                 
06 commission is at the head of a principal department or a regulatory or quasi-judicial                                   
07 agency, or at the head of a public corporation that manages State assets, its                                         
08 members shall be appointed by the governor, subject to confirmation by a majority of                                    
09 the members of the legislature in joint session, and may be removed as provided by                                      
10 law.  They shall be citizens of the United States. The board or commission may                                          
11 appoint a principal executive officer when authorized by law, but the appointment shall                                 
12 be subject to the approval of the governor.                                                                             
13    * Sec. 2.  The amendment proposed by this resolution shall be placed before the voters of                            
14 the state at the next general election in conformity with art. XIII, sec. 1, Constitution of the                        
01 State of Alaska, and the election laws of the state.
