00 HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 53 01 Proposing an amendment to the Constitution of the State of Alaska relating to 02 voter ratification of legislative approval of amendments of the Alaska Statehood 03 Act affecting an interest of the State of Alaska under that Act. 04 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA: 05 * Section 1. Article XII, Constitution of the State of Alaska, is amended by adding a new 06 section to read: 07  SECTION 14. VOTER RATIFICATION OF AMENDMENTS TO 08 STATEHOOD ACT AFFECTING AN INTEREST OF THE STATE UNDER THAT 09 ACT. A law enacted by the legislature giving the approval of the State to an 10 amendment of the Act admitting Alaska to the Union that affects an interest of the 11 State under that Act may not take effect unless ratified by a majority of the qualified 12 voters of the State who vote on the question at the next general election. The 13 legislature shall implement this section. 14 * Sec. 2. The amendment proposed by this resolution shall be placed before the voters of 01 the state at the next general election in conformity with art. XIII, sec. 1, Constitution of the 02 State of Alaska, and the election laws of the state.
