00 HOUSE BILL NO. 224 01 "An Act relating to the state plumbing code." 02 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA: 03 * Section 1. AS 18.60.705 is amended to read: 04  Sec. 18.60.705. PLUMBING CODE. (a)  Except as provided otherwise in 05 this section, the [THE] following publications are adopted as the minimum plumbing 06 code for the state: 07  (1) chapters 1 - 13 of Part II and the appendices of the 1991 edition of 08 the Uniform Plumbing Code, published by the International Association of Plumbing 09 and Mechanical Officials and adopted at the 61st annual conference, September 1990; 10  (2) the 1991 edition of the Uniform Swimming Pool, Spa, and Hot Tub 11 Code, published by the International Association of Plumbing and Mechanical Officials 12 and adopted at the 61st annual conference, September 1990, but excluding Part I, 13 Administration, pages xiii - xxi; and 14  (3) the 1991 edition of the Uniform Solar Energy Code, published by 01 the International Association of Plumbing and Mechanical Officials and adopted at the 02 September 1990 annual conference, but excluding Part I, Administration, pages xv - 03 xxii. 04  (b)  Unless changed by the department under (c) - (d) of this section, 05 [NOTWITHSTANDING (a) OF THIS SECTION,] the use of a pipe or pipe fitting 06 containing more than 8.0 percent lead, or of solder or flux containing more than 0.2 07 percent lead, in the installation or repair of a public water system or in the installation 08 or repair of plumbing of a residential or nonresidential facility that provides water for 09 human consumption is prohibited. This subsection does not apply to the use of leaded 10 joints necessary to repair cast iron pipe. 11 * Sec. 2. AS 18.60.705 is amended by adding new subsections to read: 12  (c) After the International Association of Plumbing and Mechanical Officials 13 approves a new, published edition of the Uniform Plumbing Code, the Uniform 14 Swimming Pool, Spa, and Hot Tub Code, or the Uniform Solar Energy Code, the 15 department may, by regulation, adopt one or more of these codes to constitute part or 16 all of the minimum plumbing code standards of the state. 17  (d) The department may by regulation adopt amendments to the uniform codes 18 adopted under (a) or (c) of this section, if the amendments are in the best interests of 19 the state. 20 * Sec. 3. AS 18.60.740(1) is amended to read: 21  (1) "code" means the code adopted under AS 18.60.705 22 [AS 18.60.705(a) AS AMENDED BY AS 18.60.705(b)];
