00 SENATE BILL NO. 300                                                                                                     
01 "An Act permitting the extension of hours that miners may spend underground."                                           
02 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA:                                                                
03    * Section 1.  AS 23.10.410 is amended by adding a new subsection to read:                                            
04  (d)  An employer may request an exemption from the requirements of this                                               
05 section to permit the employer to employ employees underground for longer than eight                                    
06 hours in 24 hours.  If the commissioner determines that an extension is in the best                                     
07 interest of the employer and the employees, the commissioner may grant the                                              
08 exemption.  The department shall implement this subsection by regulation.
