00 HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 38 01 Relating to the Alaska Maritime Heritage Foundation. 02 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA: 03 WHEREAS the Alaska Maritime Heritage Foundation has been established to promote 04 pride, self-respect, education, and career training for young people in general and for young 05 persons in the state in particular, including the physically challenged; and 06 WHEREAS the Alaska Maritime Heritage Foundation proposes to accomplish its 07 mission through the construction and operation of a tall sailing ship that will provide sea 08 training for young people and unbiased scientific research in the waters of the state and 09 elsewhere; and 10 WHEREAS the Alaska Maritime Heritage Foundation's ship will provide a positive 11 image for the state wherever the ship sails and will promote tourism and scientific interest in 12 the state; and 13 WHEREAS the Alaska Maritime Heritage Foundation will provide jobs for the people 14 of the state both directly through its operations and indirectly by attracting visitors to the state; 01 and 02 WHEREAS the Alaska Maritime Heritage Foundation intends to build its tall ship 03 without the aid of capital funding from the state; and 04 WHEREAS the Alaska Maritime Heritage Foundation has captured the imagination 05 of people throughout the state and popular support for its purposes and programs; 06 BE IT RESOLVED that the Alaska State Legislature supports and encourages the 07 purposes and programs of the Alaska Maritime Heritage Foundation, and encourages the 08 people of the state and others to join with the Alaska State Legislature in supporting the 09 Alaska Maritime Heritage Foundation. 10 COPIES of this resolution shall be sent to the Honorable Ted Stevens and the 11 Honorable Frank Murkowski, U.S. Senators, and the Honorable Don Young, U.S. 12 Representative, members of the Alaska delegation in Congress.
