00 HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 6 01 Relating to Armed Forces History Month. 02 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA: 03 WHEREAS the history of the United States of America reveals that our peaceful 04 tranquility and pursuit of happiness have often been threatened or interrupted by the enemies 05 of freedom; and 06 WHEREAS thousands of Alaska's sons and daughters have defended our nation during 07 peace and armed conflict; and 08 WHEREAS the presence and valiant action of military forces in our state have played 09 a vital role in preserving the freedom of all Alaskans; and 10 WHEREAS military history and the sacrifices of our veterans have been an integral 11 part of Alaska's past; and 12 WHEREAS it is important for Alaskans to understand our military history and its role 13 in keeping America free so our citizens can enjoy the blessings of liberty; and 14 WHEREAS learning military history better prepares us to understand the complex 01 problems associated with the global challenges we will face in the future; 02 BE IT RESOLVED that the Alaska State Legislature respectfully requests the 03 Governor to direct the Commissioner of Education to encourage the integration of military 04 history and the contributions of our veterans into Alaska's social studies curriculum; and be 05 it 06 FURTHER RESOLVED that the Alaska State Legislature designates May 1993 and 07 May 1994 as "Armed Forces History Month" in Alaska.
