STATEMENT :
Being appointed by my community members to serve on the AVEC board opened my eyes to the many possibilities to serve. This gave me a new outlook on how to help my community and serve as the District 38 State Representative. I see myself as a voice for my people in District 38. Our Traditional ways of life: fishing, hunting and gathering are so important. Additionally, we need housing and other infrastructure to stay connected to our ways of life. We need to address the lack of water and sewer and energy emergencies in many communities. We have multi-generational families living under one roof, this was evident during the pandemic as this became a critical health issue. These issues further complicate the public safety efforts. These issues can make it difficult to address emergencies and prevent crimes. It is an unmet need in our many communities, we can do better to come up with solutions. Missing Murdered Indigenous People is a sad narrative that we need to do better with. Furthermore, high rates of domestic violence, substance abuse and poor mental health issues within our communities contribute to the public safety crisis. All of these issues are near and dear to my heart. As daunting as these challenges may seem, we have many positive attributes in our communities like family, human resilience, Traditional values, and our culture. Together we can work towards better solutions for our communities.
