ACTION NARRATIVE
TAPE 99-2, SIDE A
CHAIRMAN KELLY called the Senate Rules Committee meeting to order
at 1:32 a.m. All members were present.
The committee took up CSHB 64(FIN)-APPROPRIATIONS FOR Y2K &
CORRECTIONS.
CHAIRMAN KELLY asked if the total appropriation is $18,488,553.
SENATOR PEARCE explained $18 million is the total amount but that
$11 million is appropriated from the CBR in the Senate Finance
Committee version.
SENATOR MILLER moved CSHB 64(FIN)(title am)-APPROPRIATIONS FOR Y2K
& CORRECTIONS for calendaring.
SENATOR ELLIS objected to protest that the amount provided for the
University of Alaska is under funded by about $1 million.
SENATOR LEMAN acknowledged that point could be argued, but said
DOTPF was also under funded by $2 million and Commissioner Poe
testified that some of the costs cannot be calculated accurately
until the projects are underway. He added the Senate Finance
Committee's goal was to fund as many of the University's mission-
critical projects as possible so it identified the highest priority
items, some of which may be able to incorporate lower priority
items.
The motion to calendar CSHB 64(FIN)(title am) carried with Senators
Leman, Miller, Pearce, and Kelly voting "Yea," and Senator Ellis
voting "Nay."
SENATOR LEMAN moved to calendar SB 74-SAME DAY AIRBORNE HUNTING.
SENATOR ELLIS objected. The motion carried with Senators Miller,
Pearce, Leman, and Kelly voting "Yea," and Senator Ellis voting
"Nay."
CHAIRMAN KELLY adjourned and then reconvened the Senate Rules
Committee meeting.
SENATOR PEARCE moved that the Senate Finance Committee letter of
intent for CSHB 64(FIN)(title am) be calendared with the bill.
There being no objection, the motion carried.
CHAIRMAN KELLY adjourned the meeting at 11:40 a.m.
