ACTION NARRATIVE
TAPE 98-2 , SIDE A
CHAIRMAN KELLY called the Senate Rules Committee meeting to order
at 11:50 a.m., and noted the presence of Senators Torgerson,
Taylor, Leman and Kelly.
CHAIRMAN KELLY brought CSHB 135(RLS) - DENTISTS: LICENSING & EXTEND
EXAMINING BD before the committee and requested a calendaring
motion on the legislation.
SENATOR LEMAN moved CSHB 135(RLS) be approved for calendaring at
the discretion of the Chair. SENATOR TAYLOR objected for the
purpose of a clarification on the Labor and Commerce SCS.
SENATOR LEMAN said the Labor & Commerce SCS mainly makes some
technical changes relating to licensing from other jurisdictions.
These changes were worked out between the holders of licenses and
the Division of Occupational Licensing.
SENATOR TAYLOR asked if there was a provision relating to insurance
added into the committee substitute.
TIM BENINTENDI, Senate Rules Committee Aide, responded that he has
heard nothing about the bill dealing with any insurance issue. He
explained the major change in the Labor & Commerce SCS applies to
instances where there is licensure in another state that might not
match the state of Alaska's requirements. If somebody who is
applying for licensure in Alaska has a certificate covering the
area of expertise that does not match in the two states'
requirements, then the certificate is acceptable to Alaska.
SENATOR TAYLOR withdrew his objection to the calendaring motion.
Hearing no further objection, CHAIRMAN KELLY stated the motion
carried.
CHAIRMAN KELLY brought SB 36 - PUBLIC SCHOOL FUNDING before the
committee, and requested a calendaring motion pending referral from
the Senate Finance Committee.
SENATOR LEMAN moved SB 36, pending referral from the Senate Finance
Committee, be approved for calendaring. Hearing no objection, it
was so ordered.
There being no further business to come before the committee, the
meeting adjourned at 11:58 a.m.
