ACTION NARRATIVE
TAPE 97-3, SIDE A
CHAIRMAN KELLY called the Senate Rules Committee meeting to order
at 11:18 a.m., and noted the presence of Senators Leman, Torgerson,
Duncan and Kelly.
CHAIRMAN KELLY brought SB 13 (INCREASE TOBACCO TAXES) before the
committee and advised that he had talked to Senator Sharp, who is
the prime sponsor of SB 13, and it is the prevailing wisdom that
the amount of the tax increase should be included in the title of
the bill so that it can't be adjusted by the other body.
SENATOR TORGERSON moved that a Rules CS be adopted amending the
title of SB 13 by adding the amount of the tax increase into the
title. Hearing no objection, the motion carried.
SENATOR TORGERSON moved CSSB 13(RLS) be approved for calendaring at
the discretion of the Chair. Hearing no objection, it was so
ordered.
CHAIRMAN KELLY brought HB 65 am (PARTIAL-BIRTH ABORTIONS) before
the committee as the final order of business.
SENATOR LEMAN moved HB 65 am be approved for calendaring at the
discretion of the Chair. The Chairman called for a roll call vote.
Senators Torgerson, Leman and Kelly voted "Yea" and Senator Duncan
voted "Nay." The Chairman stated the calendaring motion carried.
There being no further business to come before the committee,
CHAIRMAN KELLY adjourned the meeting at 11:20 a.m.
