Number 001
CHAIRMAN ROBIN TAYLOR called the Judiciary Committee meeting to
order at 1:43 p.m. Present were SENATOR TORGERSON, SENATOR HALFORD
and CHAIRMAN TAYLOR. The first order of business to come before
the committee was SB 294.
SB 294-CONCEALED HANDGUN PERMIT AMENDMENTS
CHAIRMAN TAYLOR noted that CSSB 294, version G, was adopted during
the March 29 Judiciary Committee meeting and testimony was taken at
that time.
Mr. ROY E. HOYT, Jr., resident of Homer Alaska, said that it might
be wise to require a two hour refresher course on current law when
a person is applying for a renewal permit. Concerning reciprocity,
Mr. Hoyt thinks that Alaska should recognize any state that has a
valid permit.
CHAIRMAN TAYLOR said that if Alaska laws are broad enough,
reciprocity will occur.
SENATOR TORGERSON asked if the language in CSSB 294 is inclusive
enough.
CHAIRMAN TAYLOR responded yes, but he does not want to see it used
in a negative fashion.
CHAIRMAN TAYLOR noted that amendment 1 was adopted at the last
meeting and the sponsor of the bill has asked for it to be
withdrawn.
SENATOR HALFORD moved to withdraw amendment 1. There being no
objection, amendment 1 was withdrawn.
SENATOR HALFORD moved CSSB 294 from committee with individual
recommendations. There being no objection, the motion carried.
SJR 15-CONST. AM: APPOINTMENT OF JUDGES
CHAIRMAN TAYLOR noted that CSSJR 31, version H, was adopted at the
March 29 meeting. Testimony was taken at the meeting and the bill
was amended.
SENATOR HALFORD moved CSSJR 15 (JUD)am from committee with
individual recommendations. There being no objection, the motion
carried.
SB 233-MEDICAL ASSISTANCE:LIENS & CLAIMS
CHAIRMAN TAYLOR reminded the committee that there was testimony on
SB 233 during the March 29 meeting.
SENATOR HALFORD moved CSSB 233, version D, from committee with
individual recommendations. There being no objection, the motion
carried.
SJR 31-SUBSISTENCE FOR URBAN AK NATIVES
CHAIRMAN TAYLOR reminded the committee that testimony was heard
March 29 on SJR 31.
SENATOR HALFORD moved SJR 31 from committee with individual
recommendation. There being no objection, the motion carried.
With no further business to come before the committee, CHAIRMAN
TAYLOR adjourned the meeting at 1:53 p.m.
