HB 230: VESSEL FEES
CHAIRMAN CARL MOSES, called the meeting to order at 9:18
a.m. and stated HB 230 would be heard. He brought up the
proposed CSHB 230 (FSH) that would eliminate the section of
HB 230 which would have removed the cap on the annual permit
fees. He said the remainder of HB 230 pertained to annual
fishing permit fees.
CHAIRMAN MOSES said the committee had taken the
recommendations of the Commercial Fishing Entry Commission
to charge by boat length rather than gross tonnage.
Number 029
REPRESENTATIVE GAIL PHILLIPS MOVED to ADOPT CSHB 230 (FSH).
Number 049
JERRY MCCUNE, PRESIDENT, UNITED FISHERMEN OF ALASKA (UFA),
felt HB 230 was a reasonable approach and the UFA was in
support of the bill.
Number 065
FRANK HOMAN, COMMISSIONER, COMMERCIAL FISHERIES ENTRY
COMMISSION, stated the Commission was in support of HB 230
and felt it would be easy to administrate.
Number 087
REPRESENTATIVE PHILLIPS MOVED to PASS CSHB 230 (FSH) out of
committee with individual recommendations, and asked for
unanimous consent. Without objections, the MOTION CARRIED.
ADJOURNMENT
CHAIRMAN MOSES adjourned the meeting at 9:22 a.m.
