Full Journal pdf2018-04-14 House Journal Page 3286 SECOND READING OF SENATE BILLS SB 148 The following, which was held from the April 13 calendar (page 3259), was read the second time: SENATE BILL NO. 148 "An Act relating to powers of the Alaska Police Standards Council; and relating to background checks for admission to police training programs and certification as a police officer." with the: Journal Page JUD RPT 3DP 2NR 2922 FN1: ZERO(COR) 2922 FN2: ZERO(DPS) 2922 Amendment No. 1 was offered by Representative Eastman: Page 4, following line 9: Insert a new bill section to read: "* Sec. 3. AS 18.65.220 is amended by adding a new subsection to read: (b) The councilmay not establish standards for employment under (a)(2) of this section or reject an applicant for admission to a police training program, or otherwise treat a person differently, solely because of the source of the person's high school diploma or equivalent credential. Nothing in this subsection prohibits the council from inquiring into the content of a secondary educational program to determine whether a person meets qualifications, other than a requirement to have a high school diploma or the equivalent, required for employment or for admission to a police training program." Renumber the following bill sections accordingly. Representative Eastman moved and asked unanimous consent that Amendment No. 1 be adopted.
