     Insert "The area in which exploration and development is                                                                   
approved under this subsection must be contiguous geographically and                                                            
of similar biological, hydrological, and resource characteristics and                                                           
have been included in an areawide lease sale described by the                                                                   
department in its five-year program of proposed oil and gas or gas                                                              
only lease sales prepared under AS 38.05.180(b).  The director shall                                                            
include in the approval a description of the area for which the approval                                                        
is applicable and how the area meets the requirements in this
