Senators McGuire, Wagoner were excused from a call of the Senate. The prayer was offered by the Chaplain, Pastor Jesse Perry of the Northern Light United Church. Senator Hoffman moved and asked unanimous consent that the prayer be spread. Without objection, it was so ordered. With a hunger for what God has in store, let us pray: Merciful and almighty God, from our diverse backgrounds and different faiths, we pray for the privilege of celebrating the gifts of life as one. Instill in us your joy, and give us a passion that all may enjoy life in its fullness. Mark us as your own, and never let us forget from whom we have come, and to whom we shall return. Thank you for opening our minds and hearts to the possibilities of faith. Every week, O God, we see scenes of misery from around the globe. Human life is threatened, destroyed, and swept away by anger, war, and natural disasters of all kinds. Keep us from becoming callous to such events, and show us ways to be part of the healing of our world. 2007-04-04 Senate Journal Page 0742 Gracious Creator, though we honor one flag, yesterday's election reveals a deep division among us; show us, we pray, a path to greater unity. Let us not wander as those who are lost, for many are weary and fearful that darkness will fall before we find our way home. O God, out of chaos, bring us meaning; out of darkness, show us the light. And out of our failures, offer us forgiveness - especially we pray for the will to forgive others. In the confidence that comes only from an abiding trust in you, I pray. Amen. Senator Olson led the Senate in the Pledge of Allegiance. Certification Senator Stevens moved and asked unanimous consent that the journals for the seventy-seventh and seventy-eighth legislative days be approved as certified by the Secretary.
