00 SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 8 01 Recognizing and commending the National Conference of State Legislatures on its 50th 02 anniversary in 2025. 03 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA: 04 WHEREAS the National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL) was founded in 05 1975 and has evolved during the past half-century to become the premier organization solely 06 dedicated to serving state and territorial legislators and legislative staff; and 07 WHEREAS NCSL was created from the merger of three organizations that served or 08 represented state legislatures and that shared the belief that legislative service is one of 09 democracy's worthiest pursuits; and 10 WHEREAS NCSL is a bipartisan organization with the following three objectives: to 11 advance the effectiveness, independence, and integrity of state legislatures; to foster interstate 12 communication and cooperation; and to ensure state legislatures have a strong, cohesive voice 13 in the federal system; and 14 WHEREAS the nation's state legislatures are laboratories of democracy and have 15 continually shown that state legislatures are the bodies to tackle emerging challenges; and 16 WHEREAS a state legislature is where people from very different backgrounds,

01 representing very different communities, can come together and find common ground; and 02 WHEREAS NCSL has facilitated the exchange of ideas, provided critical research 03 and information, and encouraged a rigorous review of complex issues confronting 04 communities, states, and the nation; and 05 WHEREAS NCSL strives to strengthen the bonds between the nation's state 06 legislatures and the international community; 07 BE IT RESOLVED that the Alaska State Legislature recognizes and commends the 08 National Conference of State Legislatures for its superb leadership and its commitment to the 09 legislative institution.
