01 "An Act relating to open enrollment in public schools."                                                                 
02 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA:                                                                
03    * Section 1. AS 14.03.080 is amended by adding a new subsection to read:                                           
04 (g)  A school district shall allow a child of school age to attend any public                                           
05 school that offers the child's grade level and that is in the school district in which the                              
06 child is a resident subject to the provisions of AS 14.14.110 and 14.14.120. In this                                    
07       subsection,                                                                                                       
08                 (1)  "public school" means a school or program operated by publicly                                     
09       elected or appointed school officials in which the program and activities are under the                           
10       control of those officials and that is supported by public funds;                                                 
11                 (2)  "school district" means a borough school district, a city school                                   
12       district, or a regional educational attendance area.
