01 "An Act relating to driver's license renewal."                                                                          
02 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA:                                                                
03    * Section 1. AS 28.15.101(a) is amended to read:                                                                     
04 (a)  Except as otherwise provided in this chapter, a driver's license expires on                                        
05 the licensee's birthday in the eighth year following issuance of the license. A license                                 
06 may be renewed [WITHIN ONE YEAR OF ITS EXPIRATION] upon proper                                                          
07 application, payment of the required fee, and, except when a license is renewed under                                 
08       (c) of this section, successful completion of a test of the licensee's eyesight                                   
09                 (1)  within one year of expiration of the license; or                                                 
10                 (2)  within two years of expiration of the license if the licensee is                                 
11                      (A)  a member of the military who is deployed abroad,                                            
12            stationed abroad, or under orders to be deployed abroad; or                                                
13                      (B)  a spouse or dependent of a member of the military who                                       
14                           (i)  is residing abroad with a member who is                                                
15                 deployed, or stationed, abroad; or                                                                    

01                           (ii)  will be residing abroad with a member who is                                          
02                 under orders to be deployed abroad.                                                                   
03    * Sec. 2. AS 28.15.101 is amended by adding a new subsection to read:                                                
04            (e)  In this section, "military" means the armed forces of the United States or                              
05       the Alaska National Guard.
