00 HOUSE BILL NO. 137 01 "An Act requiring the Department of Administration to maintain and operate certain 02 offices that provide services related to motor vehicles; and providing for an effective 03 date." 04 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA: 05 * Section 1. AS 28.05 is amended by adding a new section to read: 06 Sec. 28.05.013. Department to maintain and operate offices for motor 07 vehicle services. The department may not close, or contract for the operation of, an 08 office that was operated by the department on January 1, 2021, in a community of the 09 state with a population of 850 persons or more that provides the public with services 10 related to motor vehicles that the department is required to provide under AS 28. In 11 this section, "community" means a place in the unorganized borough, in a borough, or 12 in a unified municipality that is not incorporated as a municipality and in which 850 or 13 more individuals reside as a social unit. 14 * Sec. 2. The uncodified law of the State of Alaska is amended by adding a new section to
01 read: 02 APPLICABILITY. AS 28.05.013, enacted by sec. 1 of this Act, does not apply to a 03 contract entered into, amended, extended, or renewed before the effective date of this Act. 04 * Sec. 3. This Act takes effect immediately under AS 01.10.070(c).
