00 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 2 01 Expressing support for federal legislation establishing a United States Department of 02 Defense regional center for security studies in the state. 03 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE: 04 WHEREAS the United States military recognized the strategic significance of the 05 Arctic at the 2019 Alaskan Command Arctic Symposium held at the University of Alaska 06 Fairbanks; and 07 WHEREAS, as this state is the only Arctic state in the United States and the only 08 reason the United States is an Arctic nation, it would be wise for the United States to increase 09 its focus on the North; and 10 WHEREAS the bill currently designated as S. 2707 in the United States Senate would 11 establish a United States Department of Defense regional center for security studies in the 12 state; and 13 WHEREAS S. 2707 would name the regional center for security studies "The Ted 14 Stevens Arctic Center for Security Studies"; 15 BE IT RESOLVED that the Alaska Senate supports the passage of S. 2707. 16 COPIES of this resolution shall be sent to the Honorable Donald J. Trump, President
