00 HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 2 01 Proposing an amendment to the Uniform Rules of the Alaska State Legislature relating 02 to the election of a permanent presiding officer. 03 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA: 04 * Section 1. Rule 1(b), Uniform Rules of the Alaska State Legislature, is amended to read: 05 (b) When the house by a majority vote of the full membership of the house 06 selects a temporary presiding officer, the temporary presiding officer assumes the 07 chair and the lieutenant governor withdraws. The temporary presiding officer then 08 calls for nominations for a permanent presiding officer and the nominee receiving a 09 majority vote of the full membership of the house becomes the permanent presiding 10 officer for the two-year duration of the legislature. If a permanent presiding officer is 11 not elected by the 14th [SEVENTH] legislative day, the members of the political 12 party that has a majority of the members elected to that house shall elect a 13 permanent presiding officer by a majority vote of the members of that political 14 party. Otherwise, election [ON THE EIGHTH LEGISLATIVE DAY THE 15 TEMPORARY PRESIDING OFFICER SHALL CALL FOR NOMINATIONS FOR 16 A PERMANENT PRESIDING OFFICER FROM THE FLOOR. A ROLL CALL
