01 "An Act relating to employment of legislative employees."                                                               
02 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA:                                                                
03    * Section 1. AS 24.10.060(a) is repealed and reenacted to read:                                                    
04 (a) During each session, the rules committee of each house is responsible for                                           
05 approving the hiring of legislative employees for standing, special, and joint                                          
06 committees and caucuses and any legislative employee assigned to an individual                                          
07 member beyond those authorized under (g) of this section. During the interim, any                                       
08 legislative employee beyond those authorized under (g) of this section may be hired                                     
09 only with the approval of the president of the senate or the speaker of the house of                                    
10       representatives, as appropriate.                                                                                  
11    * Sec. 2. AS 24.10.060 is amended by adding a new subsection to read:                                              
12            (g)  Each member of the legislature may hire, at a rate not to exceed a Range                                
13       17 on the salary schedule set out in AS 39.27.011(a),                                                             
14                 (1)  one permanent legislative employee; and                                                            
15                 (2)  one seasonal legislative employee who is hired for the duration of
