00 HOUSE BILL NO. 109 01 "An Act relating to residency requirements for public school enrollment for certain 02 children of active duty military members." 03 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA: 04 * Section 1. AS 14.03.080 is amended by adding a new subsection to read: 05 (g) A school district shall consider a student to be a resident of the district and 06 admit the student to a public school in the district if a parent of the student is serving 07 on active duty as a member of the armed forces of the United States and is transferred 08 or pending transfer to a military installation in the state under an official military 09 order. The parent of the student shall provide to the school district written proof of 10 residence on an official document within 10 days after the arrival date stated in the 11 military orders. In this subsection, 12 (1) "military installation" means a base, camp, post, station, yard, 13 center, homeport facility for a ship, or other installation under the jurisdiction of the 14 United States Department of Defense or the United States Coast Guard;

01 (2) "residence" includes 02 (A) the principal dwelling place of an active duty parent; 03 (B) a temporary billeting facility on a military base; and 04 (C) federal government housing or off-base military housing 05 provided through a public-private venture.
