00 HOUSE BILL NO. 290 01 "An Act relating to the membership of the Alaska Criminal Justice Commission; and 02 providing for an effective date." 03 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA: 04 * Section 1. AS 44.19.642(a) is amended to read: 05 (a) The commission consists of 15 [14] members as follows: 06 (1) the chief justice of the Alaska Supreme Court or another active or 07 retired justice of the supreme court or an active or retired judge of the court of appeals 08 designated by the chief justice; 09 (2) an active or retired superior court judge designated by the chief 10 justice for a three-year term; 11 (3) an active or retired district court judge designated by the chief 12 justice for a three-year term; 13 (4) a member of the Alaska Native community designated by the 14 Alaska Native Justice Center for a three-year term;

01 (5) the attorney general or a designee of the attorney general; 02 (6) the public defender or a designee of the public defender; 03 (7) the commissioner of corrections or the commissioner's designee; 04 (8) the commissioner of public safety or the commissioner's designee; 05 (9) the commissioner of health and social services or the 06 commissioner's designee; 07 (10) the chief executive officer of the Alaska Mental Health Trust 08 Authority or the chief executive officer's designee for a three-year term; 09 (11) [(10)] an active duty member of a municipal law enforcement 10 agency appointed by the governor for a three-year term; 11 (12) [(11)] one victims' rights advocate appointed by the governor for a 12 three-year term; 13 (13) a resident of the state who has been the victim of a felony 14 crime under AS 11 appointed by the governor for a three-year term; 15 (14) [(12)] one nonvoting member, serving ex officio, who is a 16 member of the senate appointed by the president of the senate; and 17 (15) [(13)] one nonvoting member, serving ex officio, who is a 18 member of the house of representatives appointed by the speaker of the house of 19 representatives [; AND 20 (14) ONE NONVOTING MEMBER, SERVING EX OFFICIO, WHO 21 IS THE COMMISSIONER OF HEALTH AND SOCIAL SERVICES OR THE 22 COMMISSIONER'S DESIGNEE]. 23 * Sec. 2. AS 44.19.642(b) is amended to read: 24 (b) A member appointed under (a)(11) - (13) [(a)(10) or (11)] of this section 25 serves at the pleasure of the governor and may be reappointed. 26 * Sec. 3. This Act takes effect immediately under AS 01.10.070(c).
