01 "An Act establishing the Gordon Haber Denali Wolf Special Management Area."                                             
02 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA:                                                                
03    * Section 1. AS 41.21 is amended by adding a new section to article 5 to read:                                     
04 Sec. 41.21.524. Gordon Haber Denali Wolf Special Management Area                                                      
05 established. (a) The Gordon Haber Denali Wolf Special Management Area is                                              
06 established as a special purpose site in accordance with art. VIII, sec. 7, Constitution                                
07 of the State of Alaska, to protect wolves from hunting and trapping. The Gordon                                         
08 Haber Denali Wolf Special Management Area consists of the land and water presently                                      
09 owned by the state and the land and water acquired in the future by the state lying                                     
10       within the boundaries of the parcel described in this subsection:                                                 
11 Beginning at the corner common to Townships 11 and 12 South, Ranges 8 and                                               
12 9 West, Fairbanks Meridian, coincident with the Denali National Park and Preserve                                       
13 boundary and also the true point of beginning; thence leaving said Denali National                                      
14 Park and Preserve boundary easterly on the township line between Townships 11 and                                       
15 12 South, Range 8 West, Fairbanks Meridian, to the centerline of the George Parks                                       

01 Highway; thence southerly on the centerline of the George Parks Highway to the                                          
02 intersection with the section line between Sections 19 and 30, Township 12 South,                                       
03 Range 7 West, Fairbanks Meridian; thence easterly on the section line between                                           
04 Sections 19 and 30, Sections 20 and 29, Sections 21 and 28, and Sections 22 and 27,                                     
05 Township 12 South, Range 7 West, Fairbanks Meridian, to the intersection with a line                                    
06 parallel with and one mile easterly of the Transmission Line of the Willow-Healy                                        
07 Intertie; the centerline is shown on ADL 213063, and recorded as Plat 87-31 in the                                      
08 Nenana Recording District, Plat 87-56 in the Talkeetna Recording District, and Plat                                     
09 87-280 in the Palmer Recording District; thence southerly on a line parallel with and                                   
10 one mile easterly of the Transmission Line of the Willow-Healy Intertie to the                                          
11 intersection with the ordinary high water of the northerly bank of Carlo Creek; thence                                  
12 westerly on the ordinary high water of the northerly bank of Carlo Creek to the                                         
13 confluence with the ordinary high water of the easterly bank of the Nenana River;                                       
14 thence true west across the Nenana River to the eastern boundary of the Denali                                          
15 National Park and Preserve; thence northerly, westerly, northerly, and easterly on the                                  
16       boundary of the Denali National Park and Preserve to the true point of beginning.                                 
17 (b)  The land and water lying within the Gordon Haber Denali Wolf Special                                               
18 Management Area is reserved from all uses incompatible with its primary function to                                     
19 protect wolves from hunting and trapping, except that nothing in this section may be                                    
20 construed to prevent the Department of Fish and Game from taking, or authorizing the                                    
21       taking of, wolves that present a danger to the health or safety of local residents.                               
22 (c)  The land and water lying within the Gordon Haber Denali Wolf Special                                               
23 Management Area is assigned to the department for control, development, and                                             
24       maintenance.
