00 SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 2 01 Recognizing Miss Alaska as the official hostess of the State of Alaska. 02 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA: 03 WHEREAS the Miss Alaska Scholarship Foundation pageant has held a pageant each 04 year since 1959 to select Miss Alaska and is the most historically established and community- 05 aligned pageant in the state; and 06 WHEREAS Miss Alaska is the state's representative to the Miss America Pageant, 07 which is one of the world's largest scholarship providers for women; and 08 WHEREAS, although used by other pageants, the title of "Miss Alaska" should be 09 reserved for the person who wins the Miss Alaska Pageant and who represents the state in the 10 Miss America Pageant; and 11 WHEREAS the intent of the Miss Alaska Scholarship Foundation is to recruit 12 participants who are interested in pursuing their education, to judge the participants based on 13 the whole person, demonstrated through their community service, interview, poise, talent, and 14 physical presence, and to find the young woman who is most capable of representing the 15 state; and 16 WHEREAS the Miss Alaska Scholarship Foundation and Miss America Organization

01 seek attributes that would be beneficial for an official state hostess to possess; and 02 WHEREAS it would benefit the state to have Miss Alaska serve as official state 03 hostess on appropriate occasions, in the state's public relations inside and outside the state, 04 and to dignitaries from outside the state; and 05 WHEREAS, in 1970, the Sixth Alaska State Legislature by House Concurrent 06 Resolution No. 66 designated Miss Alaska as the official state hostess; 07 BE IT RESOLVED that the Twenty-Ninth Alaska State Legislature recognizes only 08 one Miss Alaska, who is Alaska's representative to the Miss America Pageant; and be it 09 FURTHER RESOLVED that the Twenty-Ninth Alaska State Legislature recognizes 10 Miss Alaska as the official hostess of the State of Alaska.
