00 CS FOR SENATE BILL NO. 200(FIN) 01 "An Act relating to health education and physical activity requirements for students in 02 grades kindergarten through eight." 03 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA: 04 * Section 1. AS 14.30.360 is amended by adding new subsections to read: 05 (c) In addition to the health education program encouraged under (a) of this 06 section, a school district shall require schools in the district to include, for each full 07 school day for students in grades kindergarten through eight, a minimum of 90 percent 08 of the daily amount of physical activity recommended for children and adolescents in 09 the physical activity guidelines by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 10 United States Department of Health and Human Services. The time required for 11 physical activity under this subsection may include physical education classes and 12 opportunities for unstructured physical activity, such as recess. A school district shall 13 adopt policies under this subsection that 14 (1) allow a student to be excused from the physical activity
01 requirements if the student is unable to participate because of a physical disability or 02 for a medical reason; and 03 (2) provide an exemption from the requirements under this subsection 04 for health and safety reasons, such as inclement weather. 05 (d) In this section, "district" has the meaning given in AS 14.17.990.
