00 SENATE BILL NO. 159 01 "An Act establishing the second Monday of October of each year as Indigenous Peoples 02 Day; and providing for an effective date." 03 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA: 04 * Section 1. AS 44.12 is amended by adding a new section to article 2 to read: 05 Sec. 44.12.150. Indigenous Peoples Day. Indigenous Peoples Day is 06 established on the second Monday of October of each year to honor the indigenous 07 peoples of the state as the first to inhabit the land that makes up the state and for 08 contributing wisdom, labor, knowledge, and many personal and cultural achievements 09 to the creation and continuing existence of the state. Indigenous Peoples Day may be 10 observed by suitable observances and exercises by civic groups and the public. 11 * Sec. 2. This Act takes effect immediately under AS 01.10.070(c).
