00 HOUSE BILL NO. 258 01 "An Act prohibiting the sale of a genetically modified fish or fish product." 02 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA: 03 * Section 1. AS 17.20 is amended by adding a new section to read: 04 Sec. 17.20.046. Sale of a genetically modified fish or fish product 05 prohibited. (a) A person may not sell or offer for sale a genetically modified fish or 06 fish product in this state. 07 (b) In this section, 08 (1) "genetically modified fish" means 09 (A) a finfish or shellfish whose genetic structure has been 10 altered at the molecular level by means that are not possible under natural 11 conditions or processes, including recombinant DNA and RNA techniques, cell 12 fusion, gene deletion or doubling, introduction of exogenous genetic material, 13 alteration of the position of a gene, or similar procedure; 14 (B) the progeny of a finfish or shellfish described in (A) of this 15 paragraph;
01 (2) "genetically modified fish product" means a product prepared from 02 a genetically modified fish. 03 * Sec. 2. AS 17.20.040(a)(14), 17.20.040(b)(2), and 17.20.040(b)(3) are repealed.
