00Enrolled SB 77 01 Relating to big game hunting with children. 02 _______________ 03 * Section 1. AS 16.05.255(i) is amended to read: 04 (i) For the purpose of encouraging adults to take children hunting, the board 05 shall establish annual hunting seasons in appropriate areas of the state for big game, 06 other than bison and musk ox [, THAT ARE OPEN BEFORE SCHOOLS START IN 07 THE FALL AND BEFORE REGULAR HUNTING SEASONS BEGIN]. Only a 08 resident child accompanied by a resident adult or a child accompanied by the child's 09 resident parent, resident grandparent, resident stepparent, or resident legal guardian 10 may take big game in an area where a season established under this subsection is in 11 effect. The adult, parent, grandparent, stepparent, or legal guardian who accompanies 12 the child may only assist the child in taking big game. A big game animal taken under 13 this subsection, except for a Sitka blacktail deer when the harvest limit for the 14 deer is one for each person, must be counted against the bag limits of both the child 15 and the adult, parent, grandparent, stepparent, or legal guardian who accompanies the

01 child. In this subsection, 02 (1) "adult" means an individual who is 21 years of age or older; 03 (2) "child" means an individual who is not more than 17 years of age 04 and not younger than eight years of age.
