00 HOUSE BILL NO. 293 01 "An Act relating to motor vehicle registration plates; and providing for an effective 02 date." 03 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA: 04 * Section 1. AS 28.10.161(b) is amended to read: 05 (b) Every passenger vehicle registration plate, except as specifically provided 06 in AS 28.10.181, shall have displayed upon it 07 (1) either 08 (A) the Alaska flag design, consisting of the Alaska flag, [; 09 (2)] the traditional colors of yellow-gold and blue, and [; (3)] the slogan "The 10 Last Frontier"; or 11 (B) the bear design, consisting of a standing grizzly bear in 12 the center of the plate; the bear design shall be modeled after the 1976 13 bicentennial plate without the bicentennial symbol; 14 (2) [(4)] the registration number assigned to the vehicle for which it is

01 issued; 02 (3) [(5)] the name of this state, which may be abbreviated; and 03 (4) [(6)] the registration year number or expiration date for which time 04 it is validated; the registration year number or expiration date may be part of the 05 license plate or contained on a suitable sticker or tab device issued by the department; 06 however, only one sticker or tab device may be issued for each pair of plates, and the 07 sticker or tab device must be affixed to the rear plate. 08 * Sec. 2. AS 28.10.161 is amended by adding a new subsection to read: 09 (d) The department shall produce registration plates in both of the designs 10 described in (b)(1) of this section. Upon registering a passenger vehicle, the owner 11 shall select the plate design described in (b)(1) of this section that is to be issued by 12 the department for the vehicle. 13 * Sec. 3. This Act takes effect January 1, 2015.
