00 HOUSE BILL NO. 180 01 "An Act relating to the Alaska Challenge Youth Academy; and providing for an 02 effective date." 03 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA: 04 * Section 1. AS 14.30.745(a) is amended to read: 05 Sec. 14.30.745. Provision of student information to academy. (a) Except as 06 provided in (b) of this section, on or before January 15 and July 15 of each year, a 07 school district shall provide to the director of the Alaska Military [CHALLENGE] 08 Youth Academy, operated by the Department of Military and Veterans' Affairs for the 09 purpose of educating and training youth, a biannual report containing the name, last 10 known address, and dates of attendance of a student who 11 (1) is at least 15 years of age but less than 19 years of age; 12 (2) was enrolled but is no longer enrolled in a school in the district; 13 (3) has not provided school transfer or graduation information to a 14 school in the district; and

01 (4) has not received a high school diploma or general educational 02 development certificate. 03 * Sec. 2. AS 44.35.020 is amended by adding a new subsection to read: 04 (c) The Department of Military and Veterans' Affairs may establish and 05 operate the Alaska Military Youth Academy as part of the National Guard Youth 06 Challenge Program established under 32 U.S.C. 509 to assist in intervening in and 07 reclaiming the lives of at-risk youth in the state and to produce graduates of the 08 program with the values, skills, education, and self-discipline necessary to succeed as 09 adults. 10 * Sec. 3. AS 14.30.740 is repealed. 11 * Sec. 4. This Act takes effect January 1, 2014.
