01 "An Act relating to experimental vehicles."                                                                             
02 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA:                                                                
03    * Section 1. AS 28.10.181 is amended by adding a new subsection to read:                                           
04            (hh)  Experimental vehicles. A vehicle manufacturer or distributor may apply                                 
05       for experimental vehicle plates. A plate issued under this subsection may be used only                            
06       on an experimental vehicle present in the state for testing. The vehicle manufacturer                             
07       shall certify to the department that, at the conclusion of the testing, the experimental                          
08       vehicle was destroyed or removed from the state. Experimental vehicle plates issued                               
09       under this subsection are valid for a 12-month period and may be renewed for                                      
10       additional 12-month periods, up to a maximum of 36 months, until the testing is                                   
11       complete. Notwithstanding AS 28.10.201, an experimental vehicle may not be titled                                 
12       under this chapter. In this subsection, "experimental vehicle" means a vehicle in the                             
13       developmental stage that has not yet reached production in the United States.                                     
14    * Sec. 2. AS 28.10.201(a) is amended to read:                                                                      
15            (a)  Except as otherwise provided in (b) of this section or in AS 28.10.131,                             

01       [AND] 28.10.152, and 28.10.181(hh), every owner of a vehicle subject to registration                          
02       in this state shall apply for a certificate of title under this chapter.
