00 CS FOR HOUSE BILL NO. 32(FIN) am S 01 "An Act providing for the issuance of one business license for multiple lines of business; 02 and providing for reissuance of a business license to make a change on the license." 03 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA: 04 * Section 1. AS 43.70.020(a) is amended to read: 05 (a) For the privilege of engaging in a business in the state, a person shall first 06 apply, on [UPON] forms prescribed by the commissioner, and obtain a license, and 07 pay the license fee provided for in AS 43.70.030. A license issued to a firm for a 08 particular line of business covers all its operations in the state [IN THE LINE OF 09 BUSINESS] regardless of the number of its establishments. A license issued under 10 this subsection must include 11 (1) the name and address of the licensee; 12 (2) the primary and secondary line of business to be conducted; 13 (3) the dates for which the license is issued; and 14 (4) the business name to be used by the licensee.

01 * Sec. 2. AS 43.70.020 is amended by adding a new subsection to read: 02 (f) A person may apply for a business license under (a) of this section 03 covering multiple lines of business. The department shall prepare an application form 04 that allows an applicant to list multiple lines of business. 05 * Sec. 3. AS 43.70.030(a) is amended to read: 06 (a) The fee for each business license is $50 a year, except that the fee is $25 if 07 [(1)] the business is a sole proprietorship [;] and [(2)] the sole proprietor is 08 (1) 65 years of age or older when the sole proprietor applies for the 09 license or will reach 65 years of age at any time during the year for which the license 10 is issued; or 11 (2) a disabled veteran. 12 * Sec. 4. AS 43.70.030 is amended by adding new subsections to read: 13 (e) A license holder may request a new business license without payment of 14 an additional license fee 15 (1) at any time during the period for which the license is valid to 16 correct an error made by the department; or 17 (2) within 30 days after the issuance of the license to make a change to 18 the license. 19 (f) The expiration date of a license issued under (e) of this section is the same 20 as the expiration date of the original license. 21 * Sec. 5. AS 43.70.110 is amended by adding a new paragraph to read: 22 (5) "line of business" means the particular trade, service, profession, or 23 activity engaged in by a for profit or nonprofit entity with the goal of receiving a 24 financial benefit. 25 * Sec. 6. The uncodified law of the State of Alaska is amended by adding a new section to 26 read: 27 TRANSITION. (a) The provisions of AS 43.70.020(f), added by sec. 2 of this Act, 28 relating to business licenses for multiple lines of business apply to applications for or 29 renewals of business licenses made on or after the effective date of this Act. 30 (b) The Department of Commerce, Community, and Economic Development shall 31 develop procedures for persons with multiple business licenses with different renewal dates to

01 consolidate the licenses into one business license with multiple lines of business when 02 renewing at least one of the licenses.
