00 HOUSE BILL NO. 322 01 "An Act providing for monetary bonuses for public school districts that hire or employ 02 principals who demonstrate high levels of achievement." 03 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA: 04 * Section 1. AS 14.03 is amended by adding a new section to read: 05 Sec. 14.03.127. District bonus for high quality principals. (a) The 06 department shall annually award to a school district in the state an incentive bonus of 07 not more than $10,000, subject to the availability of funds, if the school district hires 08 as an applicant for public school principal or employs as a public school principal a 09 person who demonstrates the ability to maximize the academic achievement of 10 students, as determined by the school district and verified by the department. If 11 insufficient funding is available for all eligible bonuses under this section, the 12 department shall prioritize bonuses, giving the highest priority to school districts with 13 a school 14 (1) that has the lowest level of student achievement on standardized
01 test scores and other indicators approved by the department; and 02 (2) that enrolls students in kindergarten through at least grade six. 03 (b) In this section, "district" has the meaning given in AS 14.17.990.
