00 HOUSE BILL NO. 304 01 "An Act relating to the membership of the Alaska Fire Standards Council." 02 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA: 03 * Section 1. AS 18.70.330(b) is amended to read: 04 (b) The council consists of the following persons: 05 (1) three [TWO] chief administrative officers or fire chiefs of local 06 government, including at least one member of the Alaska Fire Chiefs Association 07 nominated under (c) of this section; only one person appointed under this paragraph 08 may be from a local government where the fire department consists entirely of paid 09 employees; 10 (2) the state fire marshal or a designee of the state fire marshal; 11 (3) four representatives of firefighters, including at least one member 12 of [FIREFIGHTER ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICER FROM] the Alaska State 13 Firefighters Association nominated under (c) of this section and at least one 14 member of the Alaska Professional Fire Fighters Association nominated under 15 (c) of this section; a person appointed under this paragraph may not, while serving on

01 the council, be a fire chief; 02 (4) two volunteer firefighters, one from a community with a population 03 of 2,500 or less and one from a community with a population greater than 2,500; and 04 (5) two members of the public at large with at least one member from a 05 community with a population of 2,500 or less. 06 * Sec. 2. AS 18.70.330 is amended by adding a new subsection to read: 07 (c) The governor shall appoint members of each association named in (b) of 08 this section from a list of at least three nominees submitted by each association. The 09 governor may reject a list submitted under this subsection and request that another list 10 be submitted. 11 * Sec. 3. The uncodified law of the State of Alaska is amended by adding a new section to 12 read: 13 TRANSITION. The requirements in AS 18.70.330(b)(1) and (3), added by sec. 1 of 14 this Act, for members of the Alaska Fire Standards Council apply to appointments made on or 15 after the effective date of this Act.
