01 "An Act prohibiting denial or withholding of medical assistance eligibility or coverage                                 
02 for a prisoner."                                                                                                        
03 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA:                                                                
04    * Section 1. AS 47.07.020 is amended by adding a new subsection to read:                                           
05            (o)  To the extent consistent with federal law, a person's eligibility or coverage                           
06       for medical assistance under this chapter may not be denied or withheld on the basis of                           
07       the person's confinement to, or release on furlough from, a correctional facility if the                          
08       person is in the custody of the state. In this subsection, "correctional facility" has the                        
09       meaning given in AS 33.30.901.
