00 CS FOR HOUSE BILL NO. 180(STA) 01 "An Act authorizing the Department of Administration to note a person's status as a 02 retired veteran or a veteran discharged under honorable conditions on the person's 03 driver's license or identification card and to provide certain information to the 04 Department of Military and Veterans' Affairs; and providing for an effective date." 05 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA: 06 * Section 1. AS 18.65.310 is amended by adding a new subsection to read: 07 (l) The department shall provide a designation on an identification card 08 identifying the person as a retired veteran or a veteran of the armed forces of the 09 United States discharged under honorable conditions. The department may not charge 10 a fee solely for the designation. To receive a veteran designation, the person shall 11 provide proof of veteran status that shows the person is retired or discharged under 12 honorable conditions. The department shall provide the name and address of a person 13 receiving a veteran designation under this subsection to the Department of Military 14 and Veterans' Affairs.

AS 28.15.111 is amended by adding a new subsection to read: 02 (c) The department shall provide a designation on a license identifying the 03 driver as a retired veteran or a veteran of the armed forces of the United States 04 discharged under honorable conditions. The department may not charge a fee solely 05 for the designation. To receive a veteran designation, the driver shall provide proof of 06 veteran status that shows that the person is retired or discharged under honorable 07 conditions. The department shall provide the name and address of a driver receiving a 08 veteran designation under this subsection to the Department of Military and Veterans' 09 Affairs. 10 * Sec. 3. This Act takes effect March 1, 2012.
